How we stand behind the work.
We are a tool and a guide. The customer’s designated representative is the partner lawyer. We are not a despachante oficial. This is the page where we explain what that means, in exact legal terms, with the operative clause and the public evidence. No fine print.

Customer-signed procuração
You sign a power of attorney — digitally with a qualified electronic signature (eIDAS QES), or by hand with a passport copy — in favour of the partner lawyer. The partner lawyer then appears before AT, IMT and IRN as your designated representative; Matriculix prepares the documents and the data, credentialed in SFA2 under its own NIF.

Never your password
We never ask for, store, or use your Portal das Finanças login. Sharing portal credentials is a GDPR and security risk — our model simply doesn’t require it.

Auditable & revocable
Every filing is traceable to the partner lawyer’s credential, not yours, and you can revoke the procuração at any time. That’s the difference between a mandate and a password hand-over.

EN gloss (informative)Matriculix expressly assumes the legal obligation to indemnify for damages arising from errors directly attributable to it in preparing the documents, the data and the ISV calculation and in coordinating the process. Why it exists
A despachante oficial transfers a piece of statutory liability to you. We are not a despachante oficial — we don’t have that power. Representation before AT, IMT and IRN rests with the partner lawyer.
For our own work — preparing the documents, the data and the ISV calculation and coordinating the process — we built an explicit contractual indemnity, aligned with our professional indemnity insurance (PII).
Our insurance pays first, up to the per-claim limit. In edge cases, Matriculix Unipessoal Lda pays.

The distinction matters — in tax law, before AT, and in the obligations we take on for you.

Matriculix is

Matriculix is not
- A despachante oficial.A regulated profession with its own statutory liability. We do not hold that license and never invoke it.
- A law firm.We do not provide legal advice. Representation and administrative appeals (reclamação graciosa) rest with the licensed partner lawyer, billed separately.
- The customer’s mandatária or representative.The designated representative is the partner lawyer, who holds the procuração. The tax liability for ISV remains with the taxpayer. We are the tool that prepares the case.
- A guarantor of administrative timelines.Portuguese law sets two dates (DAV 20 working days, matrícula 60 days). We prepare and coordinate the procedures; the schedule belongs to the state.
- A commission agent on workshops, plates, or insurance.State and partner fees are pass-through at cost. We do not take a cut.

A despachante oficial is a regulated profession with statutory liability and its own insurance regime. We are not that. We are a tool and a guide — we prepare the documents, the data and the ISV calculation; the designated representative who acts before the authorities under a customer-signed procuração is the partner lawyer.
The party with the tax obligation for ISV is still the taxpayer. Our liability is contractual, for our own work, not statutory.
No. We are not a law firm. When the matter is legal — representation, administrative appeal, judicial impugnation — it rests with the licensed partner lawyer. Services are contracted and billed separately.
We prepare the DAV in line with the Código do ISV and the partner lawyer files it in the customer’s name. If AT requests further elements or rejects, we act to fix what is ours to fix. If the rejection follows from an error of ours in the preparation or calculation, Clause 7 activates. If it follows from a discrepancy in customer documents, we work with you to resolve.
The NIF and the SFA2 registration are published in the footer of every page. You can verify on the Finanças portal (nif.pt) — we are a single-shareholder limited company (unipessoal por quotas), based in Lisbon, with a public trade registry.
